Mike Cassidy, Emory Innovations Inc
Mike Cassidy is the Executive Director of Emory Innovations Inc. and the Director of the Emory Biomedical Catalyst, where he leads initiatives that advance biomedical innovation and economic engagement at Emory University. With his previous 25 years of experience at the Georgia Research Alliance, he’s demonstrated a proven track record of promoting collaborations among academia, industry, and government, which is key in our mission.
Wilbur Lam, Emory University
Wilbur Lam, MD, PhD, is Vice-Provost for Entrepreneurship at Emory University and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Diagnostics for a Just Society (ADJUST Center). Additionally, he is a professor of Pediatrics and Biomedical Engineering at Emory and Georgia Tech, as well as a pediatric hematologist-oncologist at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. With his extensive experience in clinical research and diagnostic devices, he plans to utilize his experience to address high-priority health needs, which was demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Erika Tyburski, Sanguina
Erika Tyburski is the CEO and founder of Sanguina, which is a company focused on developing accessible and affordable at-home diagnostic tools, particularly to address blood disorders such as anemia that affect billions of people worldwide. Utilizing her background in biomedical engineering and proven track record in engineering, entrepreneurship, regulatory, clinical studies, and patient/community engagement for accessible care - she plans to ensure that we stay committed to prioritizing and designing for accessibility and innovation in our technologies.
Justin Burns, Georgia Research Alliance
Justin Burns, PhD is the Vice President for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at The Georgia Research Alliance, where he focuses on transforming university discoveries into products and companies. With his diverse experience in science, business, finance, and managerial oversight for research initiatives, he plans to utilize his extensive experience to ensure the projects we spearhead are not only feasible but also sustainable.
Brad Phillips, University of Georgia
Brad Phillips, PharmD, is the Director of the University of Georgia Biomedical & Translational Sciences Institute and is a Professor of Pharmacy. He has a proven track record in leading academic collaborations and expansion throughout the state. Combined with his extensive experience in clinical and translation science, he will ensure synergy of academic expertise and resources in Georgia to accelerate our technologies and impact.
Mike Cotton, UnitedHealthcare Community & State
Mike Cotton is the CEO for the East Region in the Medicaid area for UnitedHealthcare. With his over 25 years of experience in healthcare management and improving healthcare access to underserved populations, he will utilize his expertise to ensure our technologies are inclusive, especially to populations who need them the most.
